letter 48: Brittany Tasker

In my opinion, the American dream changes significantly over the years. People all have different views on the “ dream” it is more of opinion. I view the dream as given rights to do almost anything I desire whether it is freedom of speech, right to work anywhere, right to receive education, etc. My heritage is English, German and Swedish decent. My great grandparents came from England to America. My mother mentioned to me that in England my grandmother had to have her husband with her every where she went.

When they moved to America, in my great grandmother said the ability to do what she wanted freely was her “American dream” fulfilled. I have noticed as time change the dream changes as well. In the early 1900’s the dream was to be given more rights, etc., than they were given from their home country whereas now the dream can be interpreted as being financially well off. I own that house, family and pets.
